urban platform · macarena city walls renewal

end of course project

2015

Murallas Almorávides, casco norte de Sevilla

The purpose of the project is activating the interstices between the double city wall that lays out over 600 meters on the Macarena quarter.

Three levels are joint through different itineraries that trigger historic connections related with wall-walks in order to active neglected towers and doors.

The inner street is refurbished by taking away a lot of architectural barriers and parking places. It is also extended, flying over the small city wall, as an unique urban platform. It is hollowed where it turns for generating visual contact between pedestrians and visitors.

In addition, some specific excavation operations are planned in order to discover the stratigraphy of the historic city and allow the urban fluxes to leave the city wall to connect them to the outer green zones.
